Within a few blocks of West Lynn Street, four of Clarksville's most familiar names have been kept on purpose. The Nau's Enfield Drug canopy is being rebuilt. The Sledd name was licensed. A Methodist sanctuary is becoming a bookstore. Bar Peached is staying on West Sixth, a few addresses down from its old building. All four have new owners, operators or uses on the way, and almost none of the change will open before 2027. This fall the streetscape looks much as it did a year ago. The plans behind it are already filed.
Four Names, Four New Uses
| Name being kept | Address | What's planned | Stated timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nau's Enfield Drug | 1111 W. Lynn St. | The Westlyn, a five-story mixed-use building | Construction Jan. 15, 2027 to Jan. 15, 2029 |
| Sledd Nursery | 1211 W. Lynn St. | A Greek restaurant from McGuire Moorman Lambert | 12 to 18 months from May 2026 |
| St. Luke United Methodist Church | 1308 W. Lynn St. | First Light Books, second location, with a cafe | Renovation Jan. to July 2027, opening fall 2027 |
| Bar Peached | 1401 W. Sixth St. | Reopening in the former Nightcap space | Spring 2027 |
All four sit within a short walk of each other. Taken together, the table gives the next three years of West Lynn a timeline, and that timeline starts after the holidays.
Nau's Keeps Its Canopy and Loses Most of Its Building
The drugstore at 12th and West Lynn had been there since 1951. KVUE reported that the pharmacy and old soda fountain closed in 2023 when the lease could not be renewed. Austin-based Zydeco Development now plans The Westlyn for the site. KVUE puts the project at $70 million.
According to KVUE's account of the planning documents, the project has 102,900 square feet for 27 residences and amenities, 13,400 square feet of retail and a 48,800-square-foot parking structure, in a five-story building. Most of the Nau's building is to be demolished. The brick wall carrying the 2014 Daniel Johnston mural stays. The storefront, which has deteriorated, is to be rebuilt with matching materials so the canopy and historic signage survive. Medici Roasting, which operates in a century-old house on the site, is also slated to be kept and folded into the project.
The state accessibility filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation lists 1111 W. Lynn as the address. It gives a construction start of Jan. 15, 2027 and a completion date of Jan. 15, 2029. So the Nau's sign Clarksville sees this November is the original. If the schedule holds, the one standing there in 2029 will be a rebuilt copy on the front of a five-story building.
Sledd's Name Moves Across the Street From Jeffrey's
Sledd Nursery opened at 1211 W. Lynn in 1977 and stayed nearly 50 years. It wound down in early 2026 and held its final sale in mid-May. The Austin American-Statesman reported that McGuire Moorman Lambert Hospitality bought the property and plans its first Greek restaurant there, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The group licensed the Sledd name from the family and plans a design with an abundance of live plants as a nod to the nursery.
That corner already has a particular history. Per the Statesman, MML runs Jeffrey's and Josephine House directly across the street, plus Clark's, Pecan Square Cafe, Howard's, Rosie's and Swedish Hill at Sixth and Blanco, where it is also developing a mixed-use project anchored by a hotel and private residences. Larry McGuire told the paper in May that he expected the restaurant to take 12 to 18 months. Counted from that interview, the earliest opening is around late spring 2027, with fall 2027 at the far end of the estimate.
A Sanctuary on West Lynn Becomes a Bookstore
Up the street at 1308 W. Lynn, the former St. Luke United Methodist Church is next. KXAN reported that the church closed at the end of 2024 after its congregation shrank. The Old West Austin Neighborhood Association's summer newsletter noted that the sale to 1308 West Lynn LP closed on April 1, 2026.
The tenant for the sanctuary is First Light Books, which is opening its second location there with a cafe. KUT reported on Oct. 16 that the store is planned for "next fall" and that other businesses are expected in the back of the building, though none has been named. KUT also confirmed that the new store will not be called Second Light. The Statesman put the renovation at Jan. 1 through July 31, 2027, aiming for a fall 2027 opening.
On West Sixth, a Bar Moves Down the Street
The fourth name is staying close to home. Community Impact reported that a May 31 fire damaged Bar Peached's original building at 1315 W. Sixth St., which has been closed since. The bar plans to reopen at 1401 W. Sixth St. in spring 2027 as a vinyl bar with cocktails and Asian-American tapas. Nightcap, the previous tenant at 1401, closed on Oct. 22 to make room. Community Impact's report covers both.
Bar Peached carries its name a few addresses down West Sixth, while the building at 1315 stays closed.
The One New Room That Is Already Open
With every West Lynn project dated 2027 or later, the only addition Clarksville can use this fall is on West 11th. The Watershed opened Sept. 8 at 1004 W. 11th St. It pairs Grisette, a cafe and bar, with the Muy Yum food truck and has both indoor and outdoor space. Community Impact's opening story says Grisette covers coffee, pastries, wine, beer and light bites, and Muy Yum serves fuller meals.
Until the West Lynn projects open, that makes The Watershed the only new place in the neighborhood to get a coffee in the morning or a glass of wine and dinner in the evening.

The neighborhood's oldest calendar fixture has already come around for the year. The Austin Chronicle reported that Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church held its 155th Homecoming on July 19. Our earlier piece on Clarksville's history and daily life covers the founding era. The Clarksville neighborhood page tracks the blocks around West Lynn.
If you own a home near West Lynn and want to know how a rebuilt Nau's storefront, a restaurant called Sledd and a bookstore in the old St. Luke sanctuary will change the way your street is presented over the next three years, Lesley Taylor follows each of these projects block by block and is glad to talk it through.
